Because it is impossible for the more than 6,000 students of “Vasile Goldiș” Western University of Arad to express their opinions at the same time, the students’ interests are brought to the attention of the management through representatives. There are several ways to be represented in the management structures, depending on the level:
At university level
In the University Senate, the highest governing body, a quarter of the membership is made up of student representatives, as in the faculties. So decisions at University level are not made without taking your interests into account, communicated to the University management through your representatives.
At faculty level
In each college, you can choose one or more students to represent you. Elections to become a student representative on a faculty’s board are open to any student enrolled in the IF with good grades (it is not a condition that they even come first in their studies). The role of these representatives is to attend regular meetings held by the Faculty Council and to communicate your views to the Faculty Council members. And this is taken seriously by the faculty, because they form no less than a quarter of the total number of members in the Faculty Council, so no decision can be taken without consulting them.
Why become a representative?
Student representatives in the Faculty Council and Senate:
• may propose legislation to improve the work of their colleagues;
• can directly inform themselves from the academic and administrative structures of the University on issues concerning students;
• have permanent access to the secretariats and outside office hours with the public to solve students’ problems.
